Shore power for seagoing vessels at Merwehaven Rotterdam
On 17 May 2023 deputy mayor Robert Simons of Rotterdam connected the first vessel, DP II Anchor Handling Salvage Tug ALP Winger of ALP Maritime Services, to the shore power facility during an official presentation.
Powered via 1.500 m2 of solar panels on the roof of building De Werkplaats and a 1.000 kVA trafo, Royal Roos has commissioned a green powered shore power connection for seagoing vessels berthing at Merwehaven in Rotterdam.
With this new milestone Royal Roos is investing in the future of greener shipping and would like to thank everyone who supported this venture. The shore power installation is purposely build for smaller seagoing vessels and tailored to their operation requirements. Both frequency (50/60 Hz) and voltage (400/440/690) can be adjusted.
The power connection can also be used to load battery containers, e-trucks, etc.. The shore power connection is now fully operational.
The project has been made possible by funding from REACT EU from the ‘Kansen voor West’ partnership program of the European Fund for Regional Development.*
Merwehaven east side allows mooring for vessels up to 225m long, 30m wide and maximum 40.000 ton deadweight. Harbour depth is -9.65 NAP. Royal Roos is a maritime engineering company providing services ranging from turnkey projects to installation of ship’s equipment like BWTS, Air Lubrication systems and sustainability retrofits using our own quay if required. Large scale 3D printing services are available as well.
