Diploma in Shipping and Transportation (DST)The Diploma in Shipping and Transportation (DST) course aims to provide students who want to start a career at sea by first becoming a deck cadet and in the future become an officer in the shipping industry. The Diploma in Shipping and Transportation is a pre-sea deck cadet training program. There are 2 phases to the training program.
Phase I is a 4 months pre-sea training which is purely residential. During the pre-sea training the students must stay in the hostel on campus. The campus will also provide all necessary amenities including daily catering. On completion of this phase, the deck cadet will be issued with a Certificate of Completion of pre-sea training.
Phase II is the Shipboard Distance Learning Program that the deck cadet will need to complete during his 24 months sea service. On completion of this phase, the deck cadet will be issued with a Diploma in Shipping and Transportation.
On completion of the DST program the deck cadet may attend 2nd mates preparatory course and get a 2nd mates Certificate of Competency (COC) after successfully passing the examination. The COC examinations are not part of DST program and interested deck cadets must apply on their own for the 2nd mate’s course.
